Dr. Sarang Desai

A native of Round Rock, Texas Dr. Sarang Desai is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in general orthopaedics and is also fellowship trained in complex surgery and reconstruction of the foot and ankle.

Dr. Desai graduated from the University of Texas in 1999. Here he excelled at academics, and was also an All-American athlete. After his undergraduate education he went on earn his medical degree from North Texas Health Sciences Center. He subsequently did his orthopaedic surgery residency in Chicago, where he had the distinction of chief resident.

Dr. Desai then completed a prestigious fellowship in complex surgery and reconstruction of the foot and ankle at the Michigan International Foot and Ankle Center. While in fellowship he was trained in the full spectrum of foot and ankle surgery including osteoarthritic and rheumatoid reconstructions, bunion and hammertoe correction, sports injuries, fractures, trauma, diabetic limb salvage, and reconstructions for complex deformities associated with residual compartments syndromes, flat feet, Charcot-Marie Tooth disease, rheumatoid arthritis, strokes, and other neurologic diseases. He is also trained in ankle replacement and arthroscopic surgery.

His fellowship was a coveted AO foot and ankle fellowship, one of only two in the country. At the Michigan International Foot and Ankle Center they served as consultants for a NHL professional hockey team, NBA professional basketball team, and a Big 10 university. Dr. Desai believes in minimally invasive surgery and cosmetic skin closures when appropriate. He has written articles in numerous publications, including most recently for Operative Techniques in Sports Medicine. He has had presentations at orthopaedic meetings on the state and national levels. Dr.Desai has also served as faculty at an AO orthopaedic courses, which teach surgeons and operating room personnel the principles and techniques of fracture management.
